The development of Poval (polyvinyl alcohol = PVA) as KURALON fiber was a world-first for Kuraray. For a synthetic resin, it has the unusual feature of being water soluble. Its superior adhesiveness and emulsion properties, as well as oil and chemical repellency, have led to its expansion into a wide range of uses, such as in fiber and paper processing, wood adhesives, PVC polymer additives, and inter-layers used in the manufacture of automobile windshields.
