Activated Carbon

Japan: Number 1 Share 30% *Kuraray estimate

Made from coal and nutshells, activated carbon is a micro porous carbon that is made by the reaction of gas and chemicals in high temperatures. With a micro-pore diameter of 20 to 40 Å (1Å= 1/10 million mm), the carbon interior is composed of mesh-like formations. Each micro pore absorbs and confines the molecules of harmful substances, making it suitable for use in water and air purification.
Useful in electrode sections for electrical storage devices also known as capacitors, activated carbon produced by Kuraray Chemical Co., Ltd. is used in such products as memory backup power supplies for electronic devices, hybrid automobiles and solar-electric batteries.
